Getting an internship or job is not an easy task. However, with the right advice and support, obtaining your dream career opportunity is always possible. If you want to have a successful job search, I recommend checking the following resources available at the Rutgers—Camden Career Center.
Handshake
Handshake is a great resource to start if you don’t know where to look for jobs or internships. In Handshake, you have access to thousands of career opportunities from a wide range of employers all over the U.S. Once you complete your profile, Handshake will recommend jobs based on your interests and qualifications. In addition, through its messaging system, employers can contact you directly with job or internship opportunities. Click here to access Handshake or to learn more about it.
Online Interview Prep
Interviews are probably the most critical part of the hiring process at any company. Interviews are difficult, and your performance on them will likely determine if you get the job or not. While becoming an expert at interviews takes time, the Career Center is here to refine your interview skills and prepare you for the next time you have one. With InterviewStream (a web-based interview training system), you can practice answering more than 1,500 interview questions from the convenience of your home. The questions can be tailored to any industry, and you can save your responses to later share them with career specialists at Rutgers—Camden, who will provide you with feedback and tips on how to improve. Click here to learn more about InterviewStream.
Resume and Cover Letter Reviews
Having an error-free resume or cover letter that is tailored to the needs of the job you are applying to is essential to set you apart from other candidates. The Career Center has dedicated specialists that can critique your application materials and provide you with helpful feedback to increase your chances of being hired. To get your cover letter or resume reviewed, email them in a word document to careercenter@camden.rutgers.edu.
Career Fairs
The Career Center organizes several career and internship fairs throughout the school year to help students get in contact with employers of the region. The fairs are an excellent opportunity to learn more about the available jobs and introduce yourself to the Human Resources staff that oversee the hiring of potential candidates. Rutgers career fairs take place both online and on-campus during the Fall and Spring semester, and each of them is focused on a specific industry. To learn when is the next fair happening, visit Handshake or the Career Center website.
