5 Quick Tips for Surviving the Semester

5 Quick Tips for Surviving the Semester

1. Stay Organized

It’s easy to get lost in the classes that you have. There are so many notes, tests, and papers; sometimes it is hard to keep track of it all. My advice to help stay organized is to use a planner and write anything and everything down. This will help you remember due dates and make sure that you don’t get lost in the mid-semester mess.

2. Avoid Procrastination

One of the common problems I have is procrastinating. To help me avoid this, I make a study schedule of everything I need to do that fits around my work and class schedule. Also, when it is time to study, I make sure my phone is on its Do Not Disturb setting and that I am in a setting where I can be productive.

3. Friends

Hanging out with friends on campus is one of the best ways to stay sane during the semester. They can be that break you need when you are stressing out or they can be the people that you go to study with for that daunting midterm you have tomorrow. Either way, don’t forget about how important it is to be with the people that make your day better.

4. Office Hours

Professors have office hours each week! If you are confused in class, go to their office hours and ask questions! Not only do you now have your question answered but your professor can match your name to your face. Who knows, maybe you and your professor have the same favorite TV show! Getting to know your professors during office hours is a great way to build a connection. Also, you never know when you are going to need that letter of recommendation!

Sleep is for the Weak or Sleep for a Week?

You need sleep, no matter how much you need to study or write that paper due at 8 a.m. Your brain needs sleep in order to function. If you followed the tips above, you should have no problem going to bed at a reasonable time. Just plan your time wisely and you should be able to get your schoolwork done and get the right amount of sleep so that way you aren’t a zombie for the rest of the day.
