Unsung Heroes Series: Justin R., Security Guard

Unsung Heroes Series: Justin R., Security Guard
| Written by Arianna F. |

The second installment of the Unsung Heroes Series spotlights a Rutgers–Camden patrol security guard, Justin R. Justin started at Rutgers–Camden as a part-time officer in 2016 and then transitioned to a full-time security guard. He decided to join the Rutgers University Police Department (RUPD) because he saw how “people on campus respected and trusted the security guards.”

On top of keeping our students safe, he is also a student himself! He is a Rutgers–Camden undergraduate studying Criminal Justice and Psychology and graduates this May (2019)! Although Justin describes himself as an introvert, he is capable of code switching. Interestingly, he wants to use his degrees in Criminal Justice and Psychology to become a forensic psychologist, specifically, a profiler in the criminology field.

Outside of work and school, Justin loves traveling! It allows him to see new cultures, new people, new styles of living, and new moral patterns. He enjoys observing nature, as well.

Without people like Justin, Rutgers–Camden wouldn’t be the same, both because of the job he does and because of who he is as a person. If you ever see Justin around campus, don’t be shy—say “hi” (and “thank you”)! Something as simple as that can really put a smile on someone’s face.
