The Most Fashionable Students on Campus

The Most Fashionable Students on Campus

People will always tell you that your college years are a time of self discovery. Who are you? What are your likes and dislikes? The answers to these questions are not just important for choosing your classes or your major, but also for your fashion choices! I went around Rutgers–Camden campus interviewing students that I felt had a really unique sense of style. I asked them four questions:

  1. Describe the outfit you’re wearing right now.
  2. Describe your style in three words.
  3. What is your favorite piece in the outfit and why?
  4. Do you feel as though being a college student has helped you become more open about your fashion choices?

Here are some of the most well-dressed students at Rutgers–Camden!

Vergil

1. Retro-inspired, all-black fit. Iced-out wrist with fresh lime green nails.
2. Fashion-forward, ‘bougie,’ color coordinated.
3. Shoes; I have a very large collection of shoes to choose from.
4. Yes because there is no dress code here. I went to a school that required uniforms and I felt as though I couldn’t fully express myself.

Sophie

1. I’m wearing thrifted/second-hand, vintage 90s platform boots, black cargo pants from eBay, a vintage Grand Canyon tee with a dusty blue and yellow graphic thrifted from Salvation Army, a lacy lavender mock neck from Depop, and ball chain necklace from Amazon.
2. Thrifted, 80s/90s-inspired, versatile.
3. Shoes or pants because starting off with a top can boring. Starting off by picking out shoes or pants is different.
4. Yes. I don’t know if college was the reason but in high school I wore darker colors more. The college environment is more open and you’re not restricted by dress code.

Sydney

1. Jordan Jester XX cream colored sneaker boot, thrifted Calvin Klein jeans in medium-wash, white cropped turtleneck I’ve had since 8th grade, thrifted medium-wash denim vest from Salvation Army to match my jeans, a thrifted chain necklace, and four silver rings. Some are thrifted and some are from Amazon.
2. Versatile, androgynous, street.
3. Shoes because I have a large collection and I love looking at shoes!
4. Yes, because high school had restrictions. My style has evolved since then and college has allowed me to express myself more freely.

Jared

1. Matching animal print tracksuit with side stripes and Adidas shoes with stripes. I’m wearing a bandanna because I don’t like doing my hair sometimes.
2. Androgynous, eccentric, whimsical.
3. Shoes. I like using them as a base.
4. Yes, because I’ve expanded the types of people I’m around since coming to Rutgers–Camden. People are more comfortable expressing themselves in college and being more expressive rubbed off on me, too.

Myiah G. (An Ambassador Blogger)

1. My grandma’s mint green track pants, my grandma’s Los Angeles t-shirt, two scrunchies for maximum control over my hair, and an Apple watch and AirPods to flex on the haters.
2. 90s, unique, athletic.
3. Pants because I have a large collection. I love how comfy and practical pants are and I can move in them super easily. I especially love pants with cool designs.
4. Yes, in high school I didn’t really wear too many outgoing outfits but I met this really cool guy in college that introduced me to thrifting. After that my style evolved a bit (shoutout to Aaron S.).

Kwame

1. Denim jacket with sherpa lining, Vans t-shirt from Kohls, red chinos from Kohls, Reebok sneakers from ASOS.
2. Weird, versatile, interesting.
3. Jackets, because I like to be covered and I like styling layers.
4. Being in college has made me more open with my style. In high school I wasn’t as outgoing style-wise because of my family and the people I was surrounded by. I come from a small town and I felt like I was in a box with what I could wear.

Richie

1. I’m wearing a ‘BWC’ printed tee over a white long sleeve tee, both tucked in, striped black Mondaysuck trousers, all white Nike M2K Technos, and a fisherman beanie. The accessories that I’m wearing are a gold Portara earring, some rings, and a gold Buddha chain necklace.
2. Comfortable, minimalist, and street.
3. I like full tracksuits because I like a baggy look.
4. Not really. I’ve always dressed this way even before I started college. But now, more people give me positive feedback on my outfits, which is nice. I just wear whatever I want.

Jenny

1. I’m wearing a Digimon shirt from Hot Topic, black ripped jeans from Fashion Nova, an oversized, black, boxy wool coat, Louis Vuitton boots, Cartier bracelet, rose gold rings, silver earrings, and a rose gold and silver Tiffany necklace to bring my hand jewelry and ear jewelry together. Oh! And carrying a lint roller because it’s essential when I wear all black outfits.
2. Monochrome, comfy, and timeless.
3. Jackets. You can have a nice outfit underneath and then a statement jacket brings everything together.
4. Yes, because I went to private school. They made us wear uniforms and I didn’t know if I had a specific style until I had the option to go to college. College gave me the freedom to express myself in whatever way I wanted.

Taylor

1. I’m wearing a pink floral romper from Pacsun, a thrifted, light pink mesh undershirt, thrifted white tights, thrifted white chunky open-toed shoes, and a hot pink fluffy jacket.
2. Bold—some might even say obnoxious—pink, and feminine.
3. Jackets, because they’re warm and have pockets.
4. Yes, because, as you get older and you don’t care about other’s opinions of what you wear, you become more confident.
