Moving on campus can be a scary experience, especially if it’s your first time not living at home. As a Resident Assistant (RA), I’m an expert on what you need to bring to live on campus!
First things first, you’re going to need to bring your clothes. But, bring a variety of clothing, taking into consideration the seasons and what you’re going to be most comfortable wearing to your classes. During winter break, you can switch your wardrobe and bring some new outfits to show-off. So, don’t bring all of your clothes at once.
Think about bringing decorations for your room. Maybe think of a theme or just shop around and see what you like. You can even coordinate with your roommate or suite mates! Either way, you’re going to want to bring some decorations that make you feel comfortable and like your space is your own. That always helps.
Don’t forget snacks! There are plenty of places around campus to eat, as well as the cafeteria, and quick stops like 7/11 and Subway. But, sometimes you’re not going to want to go out to grab a bite. Bring some quick-to-make and healthy snacks to keep in your room to help you get through that late night cram session.
Finally, bring cleaning supplies. It helps to coordinate with your roommate or suite mates who’s bringing what supplies (in other words, you don’t need two brooms). It also helps to make a cleaning schedule together so that you take turns cleaning shared living spaces and no one gets frustrated.
Living on campus is definitely fun; just be sure to bring the necessities. Always contact your RA if you have any questions or issues you feel you can’t resolve!
