Rutgers-Camden is primarily a commuter school, so being involved in campus life is a common worry for many students. Luckily, Rutgers offers a ton of ways to stay involved whether you live on campus or commute!
Clubs and Organizations
There is no shortage of clubs available to students on the Rutgers-Camden campus! Campus clubs can be academic, game-based, sports-related, community-based, and more! Even with the multitude of clubs offered, if you can’t find one you’re interested in, you can start your own! By joining a club, you get to meet people with the same hobbies and interests as you. Personally, joining the Raptor Ambassador program has enabled me to meet so many people I probably never would have met before, so get out there and join some clubs and organizations! You can find any of these clubs and organizations on the Rutgers Engage platform!
Sports
On the Rutgers-Camden campus, there are 19 competitive teams you have the opportunity to try out for! These teams can be a big-time commitment that some of you may not have the time for. Luckily, there are plenty of intramural sports as well! The soccer and baseball fields are only a short walk away from the main hub of campus. If playing sports isn’t your thing, but you still want to be involved with the team, reach out to the coaches and ask about becoming a manager! Being a team manager is a great way to stay involved in the sports world, and many teams would appreciate having someone helping them out! You can find all the sports (NCAA Division III, club, and intramural) on the athletics site (https://www.camden.rutgers.edu/campus-life/athletics-wellness).
Greek Life
For some, Greek life is a huge part of the college experience! At the start of the semester, there is an activities fair during the free period where you can go and talk to the leaders and members of all the different sororities and fraternities. A lot of recruitment happens here! You can also find all the different sororities and fraternities on the Engage platform!
Put Yourself Out There!
Going to a place where you don’t know anyone can be very intimidating, but just remember, everyone is in the same boat! It’s time to get out of your comfort zone and start talking to some new people! College is a fresh start for many and is full of new and exciting opportunities, so don’t be afraid to walk up to someone and start a conversation. Take advantage of the events that the Campus Activities Board puts together, as these are great events to meet new people. This is a time to make memories!
