COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT & THE CIVIC SCHOLARS PROGRAM
Rutgers University–Camden students are dedicated to giving back to their community. Civic engagement is so fundamental to our identity and mission that we’re nationally recognized for it. We offer courses that focus on civic learning, organizations committed to community outreach, and partnerships with community agencies and non-profits. This means that our students become active members of the community that they call home.
CIVIC SCHOLARS
If you’re interested in community engagement and want to create meaningful change throughout your time at Rutgers–Camden, then you should apply for the Civic Scholars Program! If admitted into this program, you will be welcomed into a civic engagement community that will help develop your professional and leadership skills through direct service initiatives in neighboring communities and by partnering with community organizations on a wide variety of social justice issues to bring about systemic change. Every Civic Scholar dedicates over 300 hours of service each year, and they take civic learning courses to earn a Civic Engagement and Social Change certificate.
The Civic Scholars are part of the Bonner Foundation, a national network of students who go to conferences and train in leadership and community development. Each Civic Scholar is supported by a $2,000 yearly scholarship with other opportunities for financial support like scholarships and the Federal Work Study program. Students in this program get practice in essential services like program development, volunteer management, strategic planning, event facilitation, fundraising, communications, and policy- and community-based research. The deadline to submit your application is Monday, August 1, 2022.
